How do I crochet back the other way once I am at the edge?

I am attempting to crochet a scarf. I can crochet one line but how to I go back the other way once I am at the edge? My friend told me to loop the yarn twice and insert the hook on the side facing away from me? I am really confused!

She’s right chain stich twice and go into the first chain. I know it is confusing. I suggest you have her show you. That is how I learned. It took me a few attempts, but I mastered it.

In type it’s a bit confusing but hopefully this makes sense. You have to chain 2 stitches… on the side you’re working on… then Flip the work over so that your hook is on the side you started. Then work into the third hole from the loop (thus the chain 2) and start all over again… once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty easy. Just remember to not make your stitches too tight, especially if you’re new to crochet because you won’t be able to fit your hook in.

I’ve used the following website, and it has easy to follow instructions.

At the end of the row, chain four, turn the scarf around so that the chain you just made is now the beginning of the next row. I made several scarves that ended up six-feet long and they are very simple and quick, depending on the stitch you choose. Mine I made with homespun yarn – a synthetic, bulky material – using a triple crochet stitch that makes a loose weave, but is very warm. They were so much admired that I kept crocheting and giving them away. I’m down to two and now have another half dozen skeins of homespun in a deep, forest green that I know will work out beautifully. good luck.

    Check this website : http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com

They have good directions for basic crochet.

Also — if you are near a yarn shop, stop in and ask someone to show you. Once you see how it is done, you will find it fairly easy to do.

Good luck and don’t give up! Once you learn the basics, you can do all kinds of marvelous things.

http://www.medidit.com/Lessons/lrnindex.htm may help you. Once you are at the edge you will turn your work so that you can now crochet to the other edge (hope that made sense)
