    On rounds 5 through 12 do you need to chain four at the beginning of each round?

    u r my hero…u have made me love crochet so much….May all your wishes come true…

  11. tjw1963 says:

    @FIGGYWOMAN Sure you can. You will work more increase stitches the same way you worked the previous increase stitches.

  12. FIGGYWOMAN says:

    Can you add more v [increase] stitches after the fifth/sixth row. The hat seems to be too small if I stop at round 4 or 5 [18 stitches made]?

  13. Inpsydout says:

    @tjw1963 Thanks :)

  14. Inpsydout says:

    @tjw1963 Thanks :) How can I alternate from only double crochet stitches to V Stitches? One row each?

    @tjw1963 Thanks :) How can I alternate from double crochet stitches to V Stitches? One row each?

  16. tjw1963 says:

    @Inpsydout You can mix in different stitches. You can use bulkier yarn but it will make the size a bit larger. With that in mind, you can compensate by working less increase stitches so the cap will come out closer to the size you are looking for.

  17. Inpsydout says:

    Can stitches be mixed on the same hat? :) Can i start for example making double crochets on the first two rounds, and then on the third start with v stitches? :) And, can this be done with bulkier thread, and what would the outcome be?

    @theapauline18 You can use the larger hook at any time if you are making a blanket or a scarf. Any size hook can be used with some modification.

  20. theapauline18 says:

    i want to ask why do we use different sizes of hooks…my sister bought me a set of hooks from red heart, 5 of them 3.75; 4.0; 5.0; 6.0 and 6.5….when do i use size 6.5? thanks

  21. Bufurzone says:

    @tjw1963 Hmmm,thanks :)

  22. tjw1963 says:

    @Bufurzone There are not set standards with crochet hook sizes so some may reflect different numbers.

  23. Bufurzone says:

    @tjw1963 Really,but in your measurement chart video N was 10mm.I want to be sure wether all numbers are right,thanks for the information though!

  24. tjw1963 says:

    @mansonlunchbox Hola Laura, agradezco el comentario.

  25. tjw1963 says:

    @Bufurzone The cap is made with a different combination of stitches using the larger hook. It is a size N/9mm crochet hook.

  29. margothz says:

    I really appreciate watching the parts that are in slow-motion. And the color of the yarn helps too. Dark colored yarns make it difficult to see exactly what the needles are going. I thought you might want to know..
    Thank you otherwise

    nice :)

  34. tjw1963 says:

    @baravail It is not necessary for the last row to look identical to the first row. You can work a final chain row if you want to or work a single crochet edging around the whole afghan.

  35. baravail says:

    I’ve hit a bit of a snag…. HOW do I finish this? Is the last row supposed to look like the first where the chain stitching is? If so, how? I’m still pretty novice at this, and I’m having trouble reverse doing it on my own. Or shall I leave the top as a normal row is done, without the extra chains? Thanks!!

  36. tjw1963 says:

    @baravail Since there is a lot going on with the stitch, you may want to work a simple single crochet or reverse single crochet edging. I work the reverse single crochet on mine.

  37. baravail says:

    I’ve been using your videos for about a month now, and finally have signed up for YouTube properly because of it. Thank you so much for your videos, they are so helpful in creating new works via crochet that I’ve completely given up on my pattern book. I’ve been working on an abstract kitty afghan for my baby-to-be’s crib, and it looks fairly good, even though of course it isn’t as good as what you do! — Do you have border suggestions? Or should I leave it borderless?

  38. tjw1963 says:

    @Want2bArchitect2 You are welcome!

  39. Want2bArchitect2 says:

    Excellent videos. I started crocheting when I was 10, but only knew how to do single crochet. Your videos have broadened my crocheting skills. Thank you :)

    @crookedsports I suggest you crochet a chain and not worry about exact count. You can sew the extra chain in upon completion.
